6.Ice House, Granary or Garden Pavillion?
Archaeological excavations in 1969, 2009 and 2018 sought to find the whereabouts of the manor house but its exact location is still in doubt.
This small octagonal building may have served several purposes over its life – as an ice house for storing ice cut from the fishponds in winter, as a granary raised clear of damp and vermin, or as an ornamental garden pavilion from which to admire the parkland. Its true original purpose remains one of the trail's enduring mysteries.
